Discussion Questions
- What were the disciples arguing about as they walked along?
Jesus had told the disciples that he would be leaving them soon, and they were arguing about which one of them was the greatest and take charge when Jesus was gone.
- If you said that someone was great at something, what would you mean?
Some examples of someone being great at something might be a hockey player with the most goals, or dance with the most medals or a gamer with the highest level rank.
- How did Jesus describe a truly great person?
Truly great person is the one that doesn’t draw attention to themselves. They put the needs of others first and stay quietly in the background without drawing (needing) the attention to their goodness. When they think of themselves last, they will come first in the kingdom of God.
- How should we live, if we want to be great in the way God wants us to be?
By learning to put ourselves last and other people first.
Closing Prayer
Dear Lord,
Sometimes I find it hard not to have things my own way…
To be expected to share and to put others first.
Help me to be generous and thoughtful as you would want me to be.
Amen
