Discussion:
To love God and to love our neighbour as ourselves are the most important commandments.
- Who is your neighbour?
Jesus didn’t just mean the people who live next to you or the people you know. He meant every person we meet is our neighbour and He expects us to treat them in the same way as we would like to be treated ourselves.
Jesus wants us to put our Love for God and for others before anything else.
- What would happen if we do this?
Like the people in the story, our lives will be pleasing to God and we will stay close to his love as He leads us through our lives. At the end of time, the reward for our goodness will be to share in everlasting life with Him in heaven.
Jesus once said “ Love one another as I have loved you.” He showed his love by caring for everyone he met. Things he did and things you can do to be like him:
- Spend time listening and talking
- Help the sick
- Make the lonely feel welcomed and loved
- Be forgiving and not judge others
Jesus has shown us many ways to put the 2 greatest commandments into action in our lives.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
You know each one of us
and generously pour your love into our lives;
Teach us not to be selfish or greedy,
by returning your love and sharing
it willingly with everyone we meet.
AMEN
