This Spring, Heavenly Rest has been undertaking several construction projects at Assumption Cemetery.

The work includes:

  • The addition of a drainage tapping into the city’s system on Huron Church Road. This will assist with the flooding that occurs annually into the low section on the northeast side
  • The roadway is being paved with asphalt ( including a 6 inch base)
  • The main entrance on Wyandotte Street is being widened and a curved arch is being added
  • The crucifix and two statues have been removed from their crumbling bases and will be reinstalled onto new foundations with field stone features
  • The crucifix and statues will be bronzed
  • Canadian and USA flags will be installed on 40ft poles behind the crucifix
  • Some perennial landscaping will be added
  • The Lavin Mausoleum has been repaired, refurbished and cleaned and the McKee Mausoleum has been structurally assessed and cleane
