Double AA Roofing’s subcontractor Empire Roofing is completing the highly detailed installation of the 2-ply roof apron on the west side of the church’s roof. This is an area where copper shingles will not be installed until a later date as the area will need to be worked on when the church’s masonry is replaced in a later phase.

The 2-ply roof apron is matched closely to the colour of the copper shingles and should not be highly visible from the ground.

Asbestos removal is nearing completion in the crawlspace of the church. The work consists of removal of loose soil for a minimum depth of 4″, asbestos containing pipe insulation and redundant piping. The next steps include installation of a plastic membrane and pouring of around 45 cubic metres of concrete to seal the soil and trenches. After that work is complete, Encore Mechanical will begin installation of the new hot water radiant heating system including all the pipe runs in the safely accessible crawlspace.

To date, over 300 bags of asbestos containing material have been removed from Assumption’s crawlspace.

Donated copper shingles had their names affixed last week, and installation of the shingles and copper flashing will begin this coming Monday, July 22nd.
